My daughter turns eighteen today,
The youngest of four.
I am feeling today my job is done,
They are all capable of closing the door.
I wish I had some wise parting words,
I don’t, I know they have more.
I brought them up best I could,
Now they leave me in awe.
I marvel at their independence,
And yet cringe at some choices they make.
They are important to all the people,
Leaving their world glowing in their wake.
